Senegal Parrot Information
The Senegal Parrots are beautiful, cuddly, and friendly birds. It’s a social species that makes a variety of whistling and squawking cries all the time.
Size: 9 inches / 23 cm
Life expectancy is between 20 and 30 years.
Senegalese Parrots have vivid yellow eyes, gray heads, and green patches all around. For their size, they have a huge head and beak, and a short, broad tail made of feathers. Adults have a gray head, gray beak, brilliant yellow irises, a greenback and throat, yellow underparts, and a rump. On the front of a Senegal Parrot, the yellow and green portions form a V-shape, resembling a yellow vest worn over the green. Irises on juveniles are dark gray, almost black. Male birds are typically larger and heavier than female birds, however, this is not always the case.
Senegal Parrot’s Origins
The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry are where the Senegal Parrots earned their name. These birds are excellent to have as pets. Open damp woods and savannah are its native habitats.
The Senegal Parrots are lively and entertaining. They stay fit and healthy by exercising and getting out of the cage on a regular basis. These parrots are excellent at learning and mimicking words and sounds. Interacting with the Parrot on a regular basis would help it relax and become more friendly with the owner. They make high-pitched whistles and squawks, but they are not as loud as other parrot species.
As A Pet, Senegal Parrot
Senegal Parrots are quiet as pets, but with practice, they can imitate both noises and speech. They enjoy playing and need to get out of their cage every now and then. When they are unhappy or frustrated, some of these birds as pets may bite. Senegal Parrots are typically single-person birds who are loving and enjoy cuddling.
Diet of Senegal Parrots
Seeds, grains, fruits, and leaf buds are all eaten by Senegalese parrots. Figs and the seeds of specific native trees are particularly appealing to them. They also enjoy raiding farmers’ crops, especially millet, maize, and harvested peanuts that have been left to dry.
